The first joint workshop of civil society organizations’ network “Western Balkans Pulse for Police Integrity and Trust (POINTPULSE)” was organized in Belgrade on 26 and 27 of February.

The organizations gathered around the POINTPULSE network determined the key priorities for their cooperation, advocacy platform and the calendar of activities for the upcoming period.

The POINTPULSE network is comprised of Belgrade Centre for Security Policy (BCSP) and Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) from Belgrade, Centre for Security Studies (CSS) from Sarajevo, Institut Alternativa (IA) from Podgorica and Kosovar Center for Security Studies (KCSS) from Pristina.

Through cooperation, these five organizations will develop a joint methodological framework for monitoring the state of play regarding police integrity in the Western Balkans, with a view to identify the key systemic and institutional challenges when it comes to fighting corruption in the law enforcement agencies in the region.

The organizations will also conduct public opinion surveys on the citizens’ perceptions regarding police corruption in the Western Balkans, which will offer useful insights as to the problems the citizens are facing in their daily contacts with the law enforcement agencies and which they see as the most important for the low level of trust they have in this institution.

On the last day of the workshop a conference was organized where POINTPULSE network presented the current problems that countries in the region are facing when it comes to fighting corruption in police, as well as increasing integrity and accountability of this institution.
